Bone Broth

Bone broth is rich in collagen, gelatin, and amino acids like glutamine, which help heal and seal the gut lining. Its anti-inflammatory properties also support digestion and promote a balanced gut microbiome.

Ready to nourish your gut and boost your wellness? Let’s dive into a simple, wholesome bone broth recipe you can make at home.

Ingredients

  • 1kg beef marrow bone / 1kg cooked chicken drumstick bones / 2 chicken carcasses

  • 30mL of apple cider vinegar or 1 cut lemon

  • 2-4L of water

24-48 hrs // 3L

If the bones are raw, place the bones in a roasting pan and set the oven to 150 degrees Celsius (fan-forced). Roast the bones in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until slightly golden brown and aromatic. If your bones have been precooked (for example, having already saved the stripped chicken drumstick bones or chicken carcasses), skip this step.

Place the cooked bones, water and apple cider vinegar or lemon in the slow cooker. Ensure the bones are covered in water. Place on the slowest cooking option and allow to slow-cook for 24-48 hours. If left to slow cook for 48 hours, more nutrients (for example, minerals and collagen) will be released into the liquid and gelatin will form.

Once cooked, allow to cool before straining the bones. It is optional to remove any fat solids. Store in glass jars in the fridge and use within three to five days, or store in the freezer for longer shelf-life.

Salt to taste and enjoy as is, or use in various cooking recipes, such as Slow-Cooked Curried Steak or other recipes found in the Nourish Your Gut recipe book! Enjoy!
